We were recently sent this from a reader named Tim. He tells us how he finally managed to break the habit of smoking using this easy to follow list;
I finally managed to give up smoking recently so I’m all too aware of how hard to is to kick the habit. To help others that that are still struggling with nicotine addiction I’ve put together a few stop smoking tips that might help.
1. Set a specific day to stop smoking
Setting a date in the future as your “stop smoking” day makes your plan to stop more concrete and is an essential first step. Ensure that the day isn’t too far away as you don’t want to lose motivation. Also, telling your partner, friends and co-workers that you’re about to become smoke free will boost motivation to succeed.
2. Start exercising and eating healthier to improve your overall health
Smoking cigarettes and building a healthy body don’t go together. I find that when I’m going to all the effort to improve my physical condition that I become less interested in smoking. Something as simple as taking a long walk each day and eating a salad for lunch are a step in the right direction. If you find cardiovascular exercise bores you to tears get yourself an ipod and try filling it with your favorite songs and a few quality audio books, the time on the stationary bike will pass so much quicker.
3. Avoid situations where you usually smoke
For me its going to the pub that is always my downfall when I give up smoking. Cigarettes and alcohol have been inextricably linked since I was a teenager and I fear its a link that will never to be broken. Part of the reason I’ve managed to stay away from the cigarettes this time is that I haven’t been socialising in bars recently. I suggest that if you want to stop you try staying away from pubs until you feel like you are truly a non-smoker.
4. If all else fails try using an e cigarette to satisfy your cravings
Using an e cigarette definitely had a positive effect on my quitting. The beauty of them is that they allow you to stop smoking tobacco immediately without giving it too much thought. You buy one on the internet, it arrives at your door and you throw your cigarettes in the bin, what could be simpler. To be fair, not everyone takes to e cigarettes as well as I did but they are definitely worth a shot if you are desperate to give up and they work ten times better than any other nicotine replacement therapy as far as I am concerned.
While this may not work for everyone, it is a great list to use, especially the tip about the electronic cigarette to help curb the cravings for the real cigarettes. These are some great ideas and we’d love to hear more from our readers. E cigarettes are a great way to quit smoking, fast.

My own e-cig, a Green smoke I purchased as a starter kit, has helped me cut back on my smokes to the level where I only light up 2 butts per day.
I think in a couple more days I will be through with smoking permanently.
